About this Investigation:

This data investigation is intended for teachers, teams, school leaders, and all support staff members for the purpose of examining and analyzing student work for grades 6, 7, and 8 and identifying next steps for instruction. This PD will take place in a SYNCHRONOUS learning session on 11/20/20. For your reference, the content and resources shared will be housed via this Canvas page.

The goal of this course is to provide opportunities for participants to deepen their practice with CMS curriculum and student mastery. In addition, it is important for investigators to reflect on the connections between data, planning, and instruction. During the session, detectives will engage in data analysis and reflections to demonstrate their interaction with the resources.

Participants should plan to spend the day engaged in Zoom learning. Upon completion, participants will complete both an attendance form and survey.

How to Solve the Case:

1. Attend the live learning session via Zoom on 11/20/20 from 12:45-2:45 PM (Agenda)

Analyze, participate, and reflect in the data discussion and "evidence" analysis
Create a plan to "solve" the data investigation

2. Attend the live debrief session via Zoom on 11/20/20 from 2:45-3:30 PM. This session link is determined by Learning Communities.

Reflect on the key take-aways from the investigation and consider how to engage teachers in this learning
Participate in the Stamp the Learning discussion
Complete survey and attendance form

Learning Outcomes:

1. Teachers will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the specific standards associated with the grade level they teach.

2. Teachers will be able to describe, analyze and evaluate the components of the grade level curriculum they teach and use this information to plan high quality lessons (within the grade level) for ALL students daily.

3. Teachers will be able to demonstrate the core actions in their classroom practice daily for ALL students.

4. Teachers will be able to use their diagnosis of student strengths and weaknesses as evidence to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of their own practices. They will respond to ALL student data through changes in teacher practices.

5. Instructional Leaders will be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and mindsets necessary to execute a strong content-based coaching practice, using data (qualitative and quantitative).

2. Discuss the BOLDED questions on the protocol document. If time remains or in addition to the protocol questions, consider and discuss the following:

  - What were the misconceptions?
  - How do we now respond to the misconceptions?
  - Reflecting on teacher practice, where did the breakdown in instruction occur?
  - What is our action plan? What are best practices for reteaching/extending learning for this unit?
